GST Revenue Collection May 2026: Gross GST Collections Rise to ₹1.94 Lakh Crore

India’s GST collections continued to show strong momentum in May 2026. According to data released by GSTN, the total gross GST revenue collected during May 2026 stood at ₹1,94,184 crore, reflecting a 3.2% year-on-year growth compared to May 2025. The net GST revenue after refunds reached ₹1,66,904 crore, registering a growth of 3.3%.

The growth was mainly supported by increased import GST collections and steady domestic tax compliance.

Import GST Collections Show Strong Growth

Import GST revenue recorded a significant increase:

  • Gross Import Revenue: ₹59,654 crore
  • Growth: 19.1%
  • Net Customs GST Revenue: ₹49,403 crore
  • Growth: 19.7%

This indicates robust import activity and higher tax realization from international trade.

GST Refunds in May 2026

The government issued GST refunds worth ₹27,281 crore during May 2026, an increase of 2.6% over the previous year. Domestic refunds declined slightly, while export-related refunds increased.

Assam GST Collection Performance

For Assam:

  • May 2025 GST Revenue: ₹1,502 crore
  • May 2026 GST Revenue: ₹1,305 crore
  • Growth Rate: -13%

Assam recorded a decline in GST revenue compared to the same month last year.

Important Note on GST Growth

GSTN clarified that May 2025 collections included a one-time payment of approximately ₹10,000 crore by a telecom operator for spectrum allocation. After adjusting for this exceptional receipt:

  • Gross GST Revenue growth for May 2026 was approximately 9%
  • Domestic GST growth was approximately 5%
  • Net GST Revenue growth was approximately 10.1%

These adjusted figures provide a more accurate picture of GST performance.
